Keywords Are Not Important in SEO

Did that make you spit your coffee all over your computer screen?
I nearly did it when someone said that to me.

I actually had a friend of mine (who has recently gotten into SEO, attended several seminars and therefore is truly enlightened), tell me he learned in a seminar recently that keywords aren’t important in SEO.

Yes, I was floored too.

Keywords are a driving force behind how indexing and relevance happens on the Internet. Too many or too few and you’re not relevant or you’re in the territory of being spammy…but they are super-uber important.

I love it when I use Google’s Keyword Tool for research – although I still like Wordtracker’s lateral feature for helping pull out those long tail keywords. Anyone use SpyFu or Keyword Spy? Those are kinda cool for affiliate marketing purposes.

After I finished recovering from nearly passing my coffee through my nose, I started quizzing my friend and it turns out he meant Meta Tags NOT keywords…sheesh I love my buddies…..

Of course I had to click and when I got there, I’m reading, reading …looking for the scam…where’s the part they want my credit card number??? Didn’t have to look long for that one. They promise nice, high paying writing potential writing gigs for just an initial payment of $2.95 – THEN they will charge me $47 bucks a month after my trial period.  Charles Wellmore (the apparent owner) writes “To a New Life” and so I Googled his name and here’s what I got:

Lots of Good Changes

We have been moving the site to a larger server to accommodate the rise in traffic from our PLR section, if you run across a page that has a hiccup – and I’m pretty sure we’ve caught them all but hey we’re human – please let SKinney or I know by sending us a note so we can fix it. We want visiting our website to be a productive one not a frustrating one. Hit your back button and just comment at the bottom of a page if you’re feeling incredibly lazy – we appreciate your help!

SKinney and I do the affiliate marketing thing – he’s much slicker at it than I am – but I learned an important lesson this week from Google Adwords that I’m sharing over in the PLR section, check it out.
